Golf Courses

Play at Guadalmina

Costa del Sol offers a great number of Golf Courses and is therefore often referred to as the Costa del Golf, the Golf Coast. Within half an hours drive from Costalita around thirty Golf Courses of your choice can easily be reached (if traffic allows).

Most Golf Courses do have an upper handicap limit to play (Normally hcp 24 for men and 28 for ladies), but this is checked only rarely. Some courses never check, others check only at high season while a few courses check every time you want to play (very rare though).

Booking of tee times is made either by directly contacting the Golf Courses of interest (Phone numbers below) or through one of the Golf Booking Agencies at the coast. The latter often offer discounted green fees and, if of interest, also offer the possibility to participate in competitions or other types of arrangements, eg. a round of golf in the morning followed by a common lunch with distribution of prices.

Booking Agencies

Examples of booking agencies are:

Golf Service

Golf Service (Tel +34 952 787 775, Fax +34 952 787 626) run by two Swedes and located in the so-called "Nueva Andalucia" roundabout. Leaving from Costalita you take the first exit "Nueva Andalucia" after passing through San Pedro, drive under the main road (A7) and hit almost at once the big roundabout where the Golf Service office is found.

Leisure Breaks

Leisure Breaks (tel +34 952 58 2943) operated by an English couple who often organize pleasant golfing activities. Recommended for those interested in meeting other golfers under pleasant circumstances. Andalucia Golf

Some Golf Courses

Listed below are the Golf Courses most adjacent to Costalita and a few other "Famous" courses.

Los Flamingos Golf

Flamingos (tel 952 88 9157), situated across the main road, is the golf course closest to Costalita. Flamingos offer three 18 hole courses. The courses are of a very high standard and beautifully designed, however this is also reflected in the substantial green fees which make it rather costly to play at the Flamingos. Over the last couple of years Flamingos has hosted tournaments on the Ladies European Tour as well as the European Senior Tour. Its Club House, Villa Padierna, is a spectacular a copy of an Italian Renaissance Palace.

El Paraíso Golf

El Paraiso (tel 952 88 3846) is also situated right across the main road, direction east. The club house however is situated some distance from the road entrance for which reason I recommend anyone to travel there by car. El Paraiso is one of the oldest courses on the coast (1974).

Atalaya's (tel 952 88 2812) Old Course, counts as one of the oldest courses on the coast, being constructed as early as 1967. It is located a little way along the Benahavís road on the lefthand side starting from the A7 road around two kilometers east of Costalita. Atalaya boasts two 18 hole courses, the New and the Old Course. Please note, there is quite a distance between the Club House and the first tee on the New Course for which reason one is advised to allow extra time in the event of it being your intention to play that course.

Guadalmina, southern course

Guadalmina (tel 952 88 3375), built as early as 1959, comes next eastwards after Atalaya and offers two 18-hole courses, "Norte" and "Sur". The northern course is more hilly while the southern offers a couple of scenic "links" holes, 9 and 10, down by the waterfront. The southern course is longer but also more expensive to play. The course is one of the most popular membership courses on the coast and the members have deliberately decided to keep highly prized green fees in order to keep the number of greenfee players down on their beautiful course. The booking agencies do, for the same reason, not frequently offer discounted greenfees on this course. When trying to book a tee time at Guadalmin through a booking agency you often get the answer that this is not possible, the course is private. This is however not true. Please book directly through the Caddie Master.

Estepona Golf

Estepona Golf (tel 952 11 3081) is the first course you reach when travelling eastwards and then you have to pass Estepona first. The course is situated to the right of the main road a few kilometers after passing Estepona. The course is hilly and was for a long time an economical alternative to play. Today however the price level is at par with other courses on the coast. There is often a promotional offer where two persons playing together can share a buggy for free.

La Quinta (tel 952 78 3462) lies right east of San Pedro. Turn up on the Ronda road and you will find La Quinta approximately five kms up on the right. La Quinta has three 9-hole courses, A, B och C (also referred to as San Pedro, Ronda and Guadaiza) which ae combined in a variable way so that you play 18 holes. C lies closest to the sea, A lies closets to the mountains while B is found in between. The course is slightly hilly and offers a number of thrilling water hazards.

View over Los Naranjos golf

Los Naranjos (tel 952 815 206) is well known among Swedes, maybe mostly because it was for many years owned by Percy Nilsson, a wellknown southern Swede in the construction business. At the end of 2007 the course was taken over by a group of Swedish golf enthusiasts. The course is situated right east of San Pedro. Take the Nueva Andalucia exit from the main road right before the Casino and head for the mountains. The course has since the change of owners got a real refreshment and is now in an excellent condition. It offers a length of 5813 metres (yellow tee), par 72.

Aloha Aloha Aloha

Aloha Golf (tel 952 81 2388), a "Park" type golf course is situated right above the Nueva Andalucia Bull Fighting Arena. The Course, a few years ago celebrating its 30ths anniversary, is surrounded by apartment and town house complexes, many of them operated on a timeshare basis, meaning that you have access to "your" apartment two weeks a year, often in combination with a number of "play rights" during the same time. This means that there are many "active" members in the club (>2000), and that it is heavily used. Greenfee guests are welcome but in order to keep their number low, the greenfees have been fixed at a high level, 140€ during the high season, i e the winter. In May 2007 Aloha hosted one of the competitions on the European Tour, Open de Andalucia, where Lee Westwood won the title. As the event was much appreciated by players as well as organizers, it is decided to play also the Open de Andalucía 2008 at this course (March 27-30).

Las Brisas (tel 952 81 0875) is found right above the Nueva Andalucia Bull Fighting Arena.
